Banner Delivering To Zone It Is Not Linked To

Hello - just noticed a banner that is delivering to a zone that it is not linked to. It is a 300x250 banner that is delivering to a zone that is set up for 468x60 banners. I've attached a screen shot of the ad delivering to the wrong zone and also one showing the zones the banner is linked to.

This issue is occurring on the hosted platform. Please let me know if you need any other information.

System Performance Page Damages Openx's Reputation

Perhaps the System performance page should rate performance on a statistical scale or a 'weather report' style rather than with icons - according to the page everything is fine today and there has only been one disrupted day on stats in the last week.

However my stats are dead right now with a database error, scanning the bug reports in my RSS reader I can see at least 22 new statistics dead reports spread over the last 2 weeks, and I'm sure other areas of the service have been just as disrupted.

This is a free service with huge potential, none of us expect perfection but the issue here is managing peoples expectations while the service improves - the performance page in its current state undermines that.

In its current form the performance page is only useful for tracking past planned maintenance, it doesn't reflect the community experience of the system - at best people ignore it, at worst it creates an entirely false impression that contributes to an angry community.

Can't Update Campaign End Date

I just logged in to do some admin work, and find that I am unable to edit the end date for my campaigns. I go through the process of changing the date, but when I save the changes, the date has reverted to what is was before.

Anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it?

Probabilities Of Thousands Of Percent

I get probabilities that are 100,000% or more. It does not seem to effect the delivery but:

1) why is this happening?
and
2) does it effect how often my ad are showing?

Multiple Stats Failures, Can Never Use Stats

Stats were always slow and difficult to load. Since the upgrade they have become more unusable. Most of the time I never check my stats because I know they won't load/I will get errors.

When I do try, they are very slow and cumbersome to load/navigate and after an hour or so of looking around I have usually forgotten why I wanted to look at them in the first place.

Today I can't get the stats.

What usually happens is, I load the stats tab and the date is set to today's date and there are no stats. So, from the drop down list I will pick "yesterday" (this one works more often), or "last week", or "this month" (these don't usually load at all.

There is then a long wait. If I've selected "yesterday" the stats will usually load. However I am never interested in yesterday's stats at all, I am just seeing if I can get anything to load.

If I've chosen "this week", or "last week" or "this month" etc, then usually the status bar will say "waiting for ..." and eventually that will cease and I will have a blank screen. When I get this, I click in the address bar and press the Enter key again, to have another attempt. I will do this up to 4-5x. Each time there is a long wait, then an empty screen.

Eventually I'll usually give up, or, like today, I will have an error message come up.

Today's error message is:

Banners Appearing That I Never Added

I have three banner positions on my site. I just noticed that there are banners appearing (in certain browsers) that are OLD banners of mine which were previously on my site LONG BEFORE I ever started using OpenX Hosted. These banners are appearing in all three of my positions (120x240, 160x90, and 125x125). I never added these banners in OpenX yet when I right click on them and choose Properties, it says the URL is:

This problem is happening in Explorer version 6.0.2900.5512xpsp_sp3_gdr.090804-1435 and in Mac Internet Explorer 5.2.

It is NOT happening in Firefox 3.0.15 or in Explorer 8.

Options To Hosted Openx?

To all in the community:

What with the continual problems at Hosted OpenX, I have come to conclusion that FREE = CHEAP. And in spite of our relative modest size, we can't really depend on OpenX to reliably serve up our adverts.

As far as I see, the options to OpenX Community Version are:

Downloading and running OpenX on your own server.
Paying OpenX US $1000/month for Enterprise version.
Looking outside of OpenX to consider another ad serving solution.

Does OpenX have a professional version - somewhere between FREE and ENTERPRISE? What other platforms are out there in addition to Google?

Don't get me wrong, I really like OpenX, but it's getting rather late in the day for all the headaches.

There's got to be a better way.

Your thoughts are welome.

I was wondering how a publisher could use OpenX to block certain ads from mobile device users. I recently started using an interstitial (welcome) ad that works great! Yet when a user access the site from a mobile device they can't see or access the ads close button. Is there a setting in OpenX that will block the welcome ads from mobile users?

Please advise as I think mobile targeting has big potential for the future.

Database Errors And Stats Issues

I notice that we are not the only ones receiving database error messages. I am just wondering when these problems might be fixed? We just upgraded our website and I am trying to not only still access stats (which I have not been able to do for almost 2 months now, no matter how many times I reload the page), but I am also needing to create and delete new and old ad zones and every single time I go to do something I receive a database error message of sorts. From reading other forum issues I see that this is being worked on, but can we get any sort of idea on how long these problems are expected to persist? Are we talking weeks, months, years?

I have got a problem I can't solve on my own.

I try currently to publish different campaigns in rotation. a supersize banner (728*90) and a skyskraper (160*600). it is important that supersize banner and skyskraper of one advertiser a and after a reload of advertiser b and always appear together. I have to avoid a mix of a skyskraper of advertiser a and a supersize of advertiser b. how can I solve this problem.

Unable To Generate Stat Reports

I have created a campaign for an HTML banner in September. The campaign was running without a glitch the entire month of September and the entire month of October. Now it is not appearing. It does not have a schedule expiration date.

Image Tag For Zone, Clicks Go Nowhere

I got a letter from an advertiser notifying me that clicking on his ad went nowhere. I confirmed it. I don't know if this has been happening since I started using OpenX. I'm using an image tag to invoke the zone and am not interested in trying the other types due to some advantages image invocation provides. The campaigns are active, linked and images display properly. They have valid target URLs. However, visiting the link provided in the code goes nowhere. If someone with access would like to access my account and see what's wrong, that would be ideal. Only One Zone Displaying

We have a set up with 10 zones on the left side of the page and 5 on the right side.

Four months ago, all the ads were displaying for the various zones, but now, we're only getting the first ad displaying on the left.

Here's what I've tried so far:

I created a blank page with only the header OpenX javascript and then the 10 zones from the left side of the actual site.

Even in this stripped down state, only the first zone will show.

I removed the first zone, thinking maybe something was happening after the first zone. But the second zone or any of the other zones remained blank.

I've re-done all the coding, including the header javascript, in case it was a versioning problem. Still nothing.

I've checked that all zones have a banner assigned to them, and that the settings allow the same banner to show multiple times on the page (for testing purposes we're using the same banner repeated over and over again).

I'm stumped.

Ads Inserting A Space

For some odd reason this has started happening today.

In internet explorer i see a space above my square ads (300 x 250) , this is definately openx ads that are doing it because when i pasted the google adsense code itself into my webpage, there was no space. It doesnt happen in Firefox however.

No Stats Available

I just installed openx hosted yesterday.
Got the ads serving fine.

But for stats all I get is
"There are currently no statistics available for the period 13-11-2009 to 13-11-2009"
or
"There are currently no statistics available for the period 01-11-2009 to 13-11-2009"

Is this a problem with the overloaded hosted servers? It its showing any errors and doesnt seem to be a time out issue.

Or is this a problem with set up?
I just used the invocation code. Anything else needed?

Campaign Start Dates

I've got a situation that has failed, and a test that has proven that the original scenario so we're wondering how this is supposed to work... nothing clearly stated in the docs.

We're in New Zealand so working at GMT +12/+13 depending on daylight saving (currently +13) but we can live with the odd hour slipping.

In our preferences we've set our timezone.

We have then set up an advertiser and a campaign with a start date and a banner or two.

The start date then comes and goes and no ads get displayed.

If we need to set a timezone for each advertiser... how do we do that? Surely the advertisers can be "assumed" to be in the same zone as the user?

Adsense Reporting Vs. Openx Reporting

Yesterday, OpenX shows that I received 3,026 impressions and 33 clicks. Google AdSense shows that I received 2,760 impressions and only 1 click. 1 click seems highly unlikely. 33 seems more realistic for 3,026 impressions.

Switch From Download To Hosted Openx?

I was urged by the Professional Services Team to put my questions here which I had posted to them. I've been using the downloaded OpenX for years on my site, which has only ten banners in two sizes, sold on a monthly basis (not by cost-per-thousand). I only need to place them on all my site pages (it's a review magazine; www.audaud.com) and get monthly banner view and CTR stats to send advertisers. We don't sell anything on the site.

I'm having increasing bugs with OpenX and my previous webmaster who set it up on the server is not available for troubleshooting. I cannot afford the paid OpenX expert's hourly rate. My present webmaster has no experience with OpenX and finds it very complex and confusing, as I do. The problems are mainly sudden unexplained loss of some banners when we haven't changed anything, and increasingly high stats that vary hugely from day to day - which I cannot send to my advertisers as a result. (Some days CTRs are 50%!)

Would switching to the Hosted version solve my problems? I can re-enter all the advertiser information, but will it handle the placement of the ten banners on all my pages without a lot of expensive work on the part of my webmaster? Will the banner stats be provided the same way and hopefully be more believable? Are there ever any down times on the OpenX hosted software that would disappear all the banners on my site? Would I be better off with an even simpler hosted ad management setup such as Bitt Ads or one of the other free download apps?

Error Adding Rich Media Banner

Using Keywords With Direct Selection

I read the previous post about this same topic/ feature. I am also new to this and I two spent two days trying to figure this thing out. Although I am no programming expert, I am pretty good at this stuff -especially when it comes to following directions -that being said, I am surprise at the lack of detailed info. regarding Keyword usage if this is suppose to be one of the most powerful features of the Direct Selection group.

Anyway, maybe I have the wrong idea on how this thing is suppose to work, but I was under the impression that once the advertiser and their campaign is created, I would upload their banner -set the properties/ entering keyword and save. I understand that website & zone setup is not necessary. Then I would go to the Direct Selection area and simply enter the keyword. (the proper syntax was never made clear -it looks to be the keyword itself without any special characters or identifier).

I was hoping this feature would work by simply pasting the generated code in the area of the page I have allocated for any banner with the same keyword (regardless of the advertiser and/or campaign). All I would have to do in the future is just upload any avertiser's banner and associate it with a keyword and not have to go back and paste code on the web page. The Ad server would simply manage the rotations via keyword and other settings.

Do I have it wrong? or what am I missing? Please Help!

321% Probability

How come one of my banners shows a 321% probability? Other banners are displaying in that zone, so it seems that it is just the probability reporting, not the actual probability, that is screwy.

Issue With Banners Not Displaying Or Being Served

Just curious to know if others are having issues with banners being served recently. My banners are not all being served and some not at all even though as far as I can see they are set up fine. I have read a few recent posts discussing this issue- so what is going on?? Has something changed, is this a bug? Unlike many of you i actually have a good probability rating for some of my campaigns but they still will not show and this issue appears to have started this week.

Can someone, anyone please shed some light on whats going on as I am at a loss and need to serve my advertisers and can't.

We recently setup openX and are completely unable to get a test campaign working such that all of our ads are displaying. We have done the following:

Advertiser
- Setup an advertiser
- All settings are default. No trackers added.

Campaign
- Setup a Test Campaign
Campaign is setup as default, with:
-- type of contract
-- start date: immediately
-- end date: don't expire
-- pricing model: cpm
-- rate: 5.0000
-- impressions: 100,000
-- priority level: 10, limited impressions to 100000 per day
-- capping: limit views to 100000 in total, 500 per session, reset after 24 hours

Banners
- 7 banners set up of various sizes.
- all are weighted to 100.
- 3 standard html
- dynamic / javscript
- 1 text
- the non-text pull from ad links at Avantlink.com
- all preview properly

Websites
- 3 web sites set up
- each has a similar set of zones

Zones
- 7 zones set up, one for each of the test ads
- each zone has a banner linked to it
- all advanced parameters are default
- probability is always at zero or below 5%
- limitations show "capping", but "no limitations" when the link is clicked

Firstly lots of database errors are cropping up while logging-in or while trying to make changes.

Other than that creating new campaigns or changing banners or activating and deactivating banners are just not happening.

Basically things going totally haywire in the control panel.

Zones Are Showing Up With Red Icon

My Ads are showing from ramdon Campaigns. Last night it wasn't showing anything. Also the Campaign that have compleated, banners from those Campaign come up time to time.

When I go to Zones .. most of my Zones are showing up Red Icon Box
If I go to a Campaign and try looking at linked zones they are now should up there

However if I go to the Campaign and look at the banners everything works fine there I can see the zones these banners are linked to.???

I have seen, elsewhere, a discussion about 400 Bad Request error messages, though I have yet to find an actual solution suggested here that works with our scenario as we are not maxing out on over-usage of IMG tags.

We just started using the hosted version (had used PhpAdsNew for years) of OpenX (tags indicate v2.8.2-rc25). After some heavy surfing of our site, suddenly text links and banners begin to stop loading and for those that do load, if you click, you get an error message: "400 Bad request Your browser sent an invalid request." Reboot the browser and all is back to normal, but this eventually returns if you surf the site more than a few pages.

I have included a link to a page below so you can see the underlying code, but overuse of IMG tags does not seem likely. I count 10 sets of IMG tags on a standard page for us because we also use javascript for many of our text links instead of IMG tags (we have more text links on a page than banners). 10 sets of IMG tags and 10 sets of javascript tags on most pages.

I'm sorry to ask what is probably a basic question, but I can't see that anyone has asked it before:

I have a fairly large banner/image with several hotspots/links. I am very unclear from the existing documentation as to where I should put the "image map" HTML code. I would guess that it goes in the "Advanced" Banner tab, and is either pre-pended or appended (??) - but if so I can't make it work. Perhaps the image map code is pasted into the "Destination URL" for the banner? Or do I need to do something with a "targeturl" - if so, where does this go? Any guidance very gratefully received!

First Day: 3500 Max Impressions Per Day, 17000 Served

I used phpAdsNew many years back, and decided to try out OpenX hosted now that I'm getting back into serving ads. My site's traffic is extremely predictable, with a gentle ebb and flow with the daylight hours. I only have one advertiser and would prefer the ads just collapse or display a 1x1 image when not serving that campaign, and I thought this could be accomplished by using a contract campaign and limiting it to 3500 impressions/day. I started about noon, and the campaign appears to have served every impression I got from then on, 17,500 over the next 12 hours. Is this because it's the first day? If there is nothing else to serve, does it ignore the daily limit?

How To Not Log Hits From Managers Of Openx Hosted

Naturally a manger of an account is going to test the effect of changes, and it would be a great idea to NOT log those hits in the reports.

We're about to launch a new website using a new CMS and we're trying to find out a way to serve ROS ads as well specific page ads at the same time. Easy enough if we use different zone tags, but unfortunately, we've run into a thick brick wall.

We have section fronts (sports, news, business, etc.) that use specific words in the URL (www.site.com/news/, www.site.com/sports/, etc.), so when I want to serve an ad to just those pages, I use the 'URL contains' delivery option on the banner.

Unfortunately, the CMS we're using isn't that specific when creating the story URLs. For a variety of reasons, when stories are created, they don't know if they are a business, life or news story. The only consistent thing it knows is when it was created (every story url is basically www.site.com/news/date/whatever-the-headline-is/, but that would change daily). So, the 'URL contains' option is out (the /news/ is on every story).

Of course, if we sold every story as an ROS ad, it wouldn't matter.

The guys setting up the CMS for us can add a keyword to the source code that shows in the code (For example: ). I tried to test using the "Site: Source contains " delivery option, but it doesn't seem to be taking. I looked at a few other pages in the help are of the OpenX site, but it sounds like even those tags would have to be changed once a specific ad ran it's course and the zone needs to go back to ROS again.

What makes it hard is that every story is using the same template, which means every story has the same zone code attached to it. There's just no way to add a "Sports" zone to just sports stories because they don't know if they are a sports story.

Hopefully, this makes sense.

Any ideas? What terribly obvious thing am I missing?

Need Strategic Advice - Openx For Multiple Sites And Advertisers

I've gone through all of the documentation and the forums, but am a bit stuck as to how to take the best first step to set up our usage of OpenX appropriately.

We are planning to run a range of advertisers across a range of sites in our owned an operated closed network of content sites.

We want to be able to categorize our OpenX code snippets by site category, so that we can run advertiser x across a handful of categories relevant to the category of advertiser x.

We are not sure how best to start, as if we set up individual advertisers with their own campaigns and banners in OpenX, it is unclear how we will drop this code into our network of sites so that we can run several advertisers in rotation on the same page, for example:

advertiser x: debt services
advertiser y: debt advice
advertiser z: gardening

We want to be able to run ads from advertiser x and y (but not z) on the same pages of sites in our network that are in the financial services category.

But, it seems to do this, we will need to set up two snippets of code whereby we will end up with two sets of advertising using the OpenX hosted solution.

How best to use your platform so that we can group together advertisers by category and have only one piece of code that we drop into our site per ad zone and rotate multiple advertisers simultaneously?

Ads Not Delivering

Just noticed that there are no ads delivering on my site. Not sure if this is a problem for others as well. Not sure when the issue started; I discovered it about forty-five minutes ago. Is there any maintenance going on that may be causing this, or is this a bug of some sort? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Can't Save Advertiser / New Campaigns / New Banners

Same goes for adding new campaigns to existing advertisers and banners.

Configuring Openx For An Agency To Work With Publishers Who Also Run O

Any help with this would be appreciated, as I'm stumped on this one. I'm setting up an advertising network that will be delivering advertising banners from a company that will need to be distributed to my network of publisher all of whom are using OpenX, but also mix in my advertising network ads along with several other networks which they work with.

So here is who is involved and what they need to be able to do....

Advertiser

They have sent me both javascript and iframe tags to use. They do not use OpenX but they are using an advertising management platform.

My Advertising Company

I have an OpenX hosted account, obviously set as the admin. Within this account, I have 20 websites set up, consisting of my publishers who will be distributing the Advertisers ads.

The Publishers

There are 20 of them, but I want to focus on one publisher in particular. This publisher has an OpenX hosted account and has two roles set up. The first role is the admin and he manages the advertising for two different websites in the account. The second role is "trafficker" which appears to be linked to my advertising company OpenX account. So if I set up a zone in my advertising company account for this publisher, they are able to see the zone as well as the banner.

The problem

Within the publisher account, they set up my advertising company as a "advertiser". They then switch roles to "trafficker" and grabbed the code (this code is my advertising company's invocation tags, which display the banner being pulled from my clients ad server). The publisher then switch roles, went to advertisers, set up a campaign for my company, and created a banner using the code from the trafficker role.

This is where the banner stops working. At this point if the banner will no longer display. I've tried using a variety of different tags (img, iframe, javascript), and the banner won't even display when I click "show banner" in the OpenX control panel.

The settings for the campaign are contract and spread out over 4 weeks.

Could this be a conflict caused by trying to use tags from one admin account (my advertising company) in another admin account (publisher is using the tags my admin account generated).

Do the publishers need to have two accounts? One as the trafficker where they set up all of their zones and another separate account that is the admin and can configure all of the campaigns from multiple sources (my company, adsense, other cpm companies, etc.)? Or should they be able to do all of this from one account?

This is time sensitive so suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've been reading over the documentation for the past two days and haven't been able to find an answer.

Zone Code Initiates 404 Requests On Our Web Server

I'll try and describe this in as detail as possible:
We're using OpenX Community Hosted and noticed thousands of 404 requests on our website server.
This is going on for a day (or two) but not longer.
Removing OpenX's zone code from our pages stopped these requests.
Restoring Zone code (Javascript) in our pages, after disabling all campaigns (none of our networks code is displayed) resumes these requests.
The request is for /F - for a filename called "F" in our server's root.

No Ctr Stats For Flash Banner?

I have served a couple of Flash banners recently and I did not get any click through information in the statistics for them.

The impressions column is full of data, but the clicks column just shows dashes.

It wasn't a huge issue at the time since it was a promo swap banner and not paid per click. However I am about to serve a Flash banner on a CPC and so I need to be able to track the clicks.

Anyone else experienced this problem?

Campaign Window - Cpc

I've been trafficking campaigns in the blind for a few months without really trying to understand all the various parameters!

I'm about to serve my first CPC campaign. Each click is £0.25. I have a couple of questions:

- What is the benefit of using the pricing section, and sticking the campaign down as a CPC one?
- If I do this, what currency should I put it down as?
- How will this then affect the way the banner is delivered, e.g. if I put it down as contract (exclusive)?

Probs Changing From Contract To Remnant

I have a campaign running. It's been running for a few weeks as a contract with the following parameters:

Start immediately
Don't expire
Unlimited impressions
Priority 5
Limited to 1,000 per day

Seems pretty standard to me.

I just went in and tried to switch it to "remnant". I changed the selection to remnant and added a weight of 1. Hit save changes. And when the page refreshed it went back to old settings. This happened a few times.

Using Interstitial Invocation Code

I've done interstitial the old-fashioned way in the past (using a jquery function). I don't know how OpenX's interstitial invocation code is called by a specific link.

In other words, where/how do I use the invocation code so that when someone clicks on link A the interstitial is called up before they reach their destination?

Neither the interstitial code nor any documentation I've found shows where to put the invoke code so that it works with a single link.

Or do OpenX's interstitial ads have to work with ALL links on a specific page?
