Integrate Openx With Membership Site Or Mem Sites Database(sql), want to know if this is possible Options

Hi all

I have started using openx and have a specific requirement

I want to be able to have members be served ads and then have the stats on those members.

sounds easy but this is where it gets interesting.

Each member can have others join under them (using butterfly marketing script which uses sql to manage members)

I want to be able to credit members and those under them with credit everytime they click on an ad. I also want to be able to only serve the ads to each person once ever.

So on openx I will have loads of ads. They will be served to each member once, they will be served to their introduced members once and I will be able to have the stats on the members and their affiliates.

I will only be using simple banners for the ads that when the user clicks an ad they go thru a tracking script I use on another server but I just want to track the amount of clicks and not serve the same ads to that member ever again no matter when they revisit the site.

i will also be serving ads in an iframe on a secure part of the membership site so only active logged in members will be able to see the ads (this might pose a challenge tho so maybe it will just be a page on the sites domain that needs a password to get onto this secure page - with iframe showing ads)

I hope this explaination makes sense and that someone can help me.

I am not tied to butterfly marketing script it's just the one I know best, any suggestions will be welcome.

I am willing to pay for this solution but would obviously rather it was free cause someone has already done this

Assuming your openx server is running on the same server as your members server, this sort of functionality is fairly trivial to accomplish.

OpenX already allows you to restrict ads by viewer_id - a randomly assigned id to every viewer of the website.
What you would need to do is create mapping table[or extend your user table] to map memberids to viewerids

Than when someone logs onto your website you:
A) Check to see if they have had a viewerid assigned already
A1) If yes, set the appropriate cookie for openads to pull viewerid
A2) If not, call the OpenX API to generate a viewerid, store that viewerid in your mapping table, and set the viewerid cookie

For synchrosity, you should destroy this cookie when someone logs out.

Than you can simply use OpenAds normal limitations for delivery.
[If you wanted to allow people not signed in to see the ads, this would be doable by simply displaying the ads normally, if/when someone logs in to your site you check and if they already have a viewer_id cookie set AND their userid does not already have a viewer_id assigned to them, assign the viewer_id to that user. If they do have one, you assume it was from someone else and don't worry about it].

This gets a bit harder if you have two domains on the same server, say www.mydomain.com and ads.mydomain.com, I'd have to dig into the code a bit further and openads may need to be modified in order to retrieve global domain cookies.

If the domains are on seperate servers, it gets slightly more complicated but is still very doable[you just need to be able to communicate via mysql from one server to the other]

Finally, reporting for all of this would be specific to your needs, so those reports would have to be generated individually using the mapping information to tie ad views to members.

If you have 2 seperate domains, mywebdomain.com and myaddomain.com than this becomes a bit more difficult. Now you need a bit of glue between the two sites to set everything up[basically, you would have to pass the viewerid as a parameter to openx and setup openx to grab that cookie.]

All in all, doable, but it would take a few days to program specifically for your needs.
