Dear users, We have prepared a new Conversion Tracking Tutorial which can be accessed using the following link: http://www.openx.org/en/docs/2.8/adminguid...acking+tutorial I hope it will be helpful for many of you. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Michal, the Conversion Tracking Tutorial is a huge step forward compared to the documentation for this feature before, so congratulations to you and thank you very much. I have two suggestions to build on top of the work you've already done. First, the little one. I'll second what rbacal said in the previous incarnation of this thread, which is that in a few key places in the documentation, it does little more than restate what the interface has already told us about the feature. A perfect example is in the very first item in the tutorial, "Enabling Conversion Tracking in Global Settings". Here's an excerpt from that portion of the Tutorial: # Default Ad Impression Connection Window (seconds): specify the time duration allowed for the default ad impression connection window when using conversion tracking. Since I don't know what a "connection window" is, the documentation really doesn't help me to use the feature. At first, because the time frame is quoted in seconds, I was thinking it must be some kind of timeout setting, e.g. if the tracker tag fires but the server doesn't answer after N seconds, then move on and load the rest of the page. After a while I decided that couldn't be correct. (If it were, why would you need one for ad impressions and one for ad clicks?) I now think that it may create a new default that will prepopulate the days/hours/minutes/seconds boxes going forward, e.g. if I want my default to be 30 days going forward, I should enter 2592000 in these two boxes which is 30 days as expressed in seconds. (I'd like to experiment with this, but I'm using the Hosted version and struggling to find those Global Settings fields.) As already stated, this lack of detail only occurs in a few places in the documentation -- you'll probably see them with another read-through. My second suggestion is a little bigger in scope, but would be MUCH more valuable. What would really be helpful would be to see actual examples from other users of how they've implemented the settings in their own instance of the software. It would list all the vital information for their implementation (version, etc.) and then would show a screenshot of their system along with a little explanation from them of why they did what they did. Obviously, this capability would be helpful not only for this tutorial but throughout the documentation. First of all, it would have helped me solve my misunderstanding above by giving me some obvious clues. I was thinking it was a "timeout" feature and expecting something like a "0.2" value for seconds -- if I saw that someone else had implemented a value of "2592000" I would have realized immediately that I must not be understanding what the feature did. And if they took the time to write a quick note on why they chose that value, I'd probably be able to piece together what the feature did, even if the documentation didn't explain every little term (e.g. "conversion window") for us newbies. But where this would be the MOST valuable would be with a feature like setting up the "Variables" tab. What kind of variables do others use for their click tracking? I'd love to see how others have set up their variables -- it would give me great insight. My guess is that after clicking through a few examples from others not only would I have ideas for how to set up my own variables, I'd have a much better grasp of how the feature itself works and of what could be done with it. The code is already collaborative -- this would help make the documentation and implementation guidelines more collaborative as well. So, those are my two suggestions. Again, the Tutorial was very useful, very helpful and much appreciated. |

I really would like to backup the suggestions from Hatlevig.
I was quite puzzled for the information available for Conversion Window. I believe this text that i found on another thread http://forum.openx.org/index.php?showtopic=7038 really helped me understand the Conversion Window (This is actually from the older documentation) QUOTE Trackers have conversion rules. A conversion rule is the amount of time after a click or a view in which a conversion can be counted. For example, if you enter a click window of 30 days, a conversion will be counted if a person clicks on an ad, then fills out a credit card form within 30 days. If he fills out an application 31 days later, it will not be counted. This i believe should be added in the documentation as soon as possible. |
